The Choice

As I think about the stories I’ve told in my book, I realize an underlying theme throughout the ten episodes of The Christian Gossip Show, is the relationship between ourselves and our Savior and how it affects our lives here on earth as we interact with our fellow mankind. But also, how that relationship affects our eternity after we leave this world. We each have a choice to make that will determine our eternity.

From the very beginning of time as we know it, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit have been involved in the life of every person that was created and placed in this world. To every man and woman, His most treasured creation, God gave a free heart and a free will, similar to His own, capable of great accomplishments and unmeasurable love.

Throughout all of man’s existence on earth, God has sought to have fellowship with him; with Adam and Eve in the garden, with Abraham and his wandering clan of family members, with Moses and his complaining tribe of God’s chosen people, trapped in the wilderness of their own hearts. Sometimes that fellowship was warm and intimate, but other times it was broken because of the wilderness man created.

Over and over again man has wandered away from God in pursuit of his own desires, seeking his own ways, and stepping out of God’s will. Wrapped up in selfish ambitions, mankind has continued throughout the ages to show his need for a savior from his lost relationship to God; a savior to bring reconciliation between he and his Creator.

And so, when the time was right, our Savior burst onto the pages of history. God dwelt among us in His Son Jesus, revealing God to us as we had never yet known Him.  Jesus healed the sick, made the blind to see. He even brought life back to some who had died. But most of all, this miracle worker brought the message of hope and redemption to a lost people destined for an eternity without God.

But one day, as the crowds of curious people looked on, among frenzied shouts from critics, our Savior was led to a place called Calvary, a place where common criminals were put to death. There, Jesus willingly gave his life, innocent of any crime, but guilty of loving us so much that He was willing to die for us. Yes, there on that cross, Jesus became the sacrifice that was required for us to be reconciled to God.

But three days later Jesus rose triumphantly to life again. Truely, our Savior has come. Today, the question still remains, will you choose to have fellowship with God by accepting the Savior, His very own son, that He gave for you, or will you go into eternity without God?……….The choice is yours alone.

Give some thought to this poem taken from the words to a song I wrote called “Guilty Too” and consider the price Jesus paid because he loves us so much.

God picked a chosen people for His own,

And He wanted them to follow Him alone.

But they wandered far away

From the God that they had known,

So, He sent His only Son

To bring them home.

Jesus was the Lord’s Messiah,

Sent to save them from their sin.

But many of God’s chosen people,

Didn’t see that it was Him.

So, they lead Him down an awful path

That lead to Calvary,

Where wayward sinners

Were made to die upon a tree.

There, Jesus hung between two criminals,

But He was guilty, too.

Guilty of loving us so very much,

That He died for me and you.

I heard about a Savior for mankind,

And I wondered if that Savior should be mine.

But, looking at my life,

I didn’t see I needed Him,

For I did not understand,

I, too, had sinned.

But I knew something was missing,

And my life was not complete.

Then the Lord stirred in my heart,

And I know I heard Him speak.

When I bowed before the Savior,

He made my blinded eyes to see.

I realized that He had died

For even me.

There, Jesus hung between two criminals,

But He was guilty, too.

Guilty of loving us so very much,

That He died for me and you.

Lord, I’ve surveyed the crown of thorns,

Your nail pierced hands,

Your bleeding side.

I’ll pray you’ll find me, Lord,

That guilty of loving you.

Please find me guilty, Lord,

The way you were guilty too.                        Rom. 5:8

Can we ever love Jesus as much as He loves us?
