Rhyme and Reason

Hi friends, today, I want to share with you a collection of short poems I wrote that are “snippets” of events recorded in God’s word. Several of these incidents are hinted at in the stories of my book, The Christian Gossip Show. These poems are examples of the strange and mysterious ways the Lord acts on our behalf. Hope you’ll enjoy…….

      Rhymn and Reason

The serpent tempted Eve and said,

“Taste this luscious fruit.”

I wish I could have been there,

That scene was quite a hoot!

Because he did his evil deed,

He had to crawl upon the ground.

His fate teaches us a lesson,

Don’t twist God’s word around.

Noah warned his neighbors

God’s righteous flood would come.

But they made fun of him and said,

“Look at all this sun.”

But one day, clouds began to gather,

And the flood arrived.

Because of their rebellion,

They did not survive.

Now Balaam was a prophet,

Not of God’s chosen ones.

But God saw He could use him,

And have a little fun.

He made his donkey talk to him,

And Balaam talked right back.

Today, if we saw Balaam,

We’d think he was a quack!

Sarah said to Abraham,

“We have got to act.

The Lord has promised you a child,

Won’t be mine, and that’s a fact.”

She said, “You take my handmaiden,

Through her you will be blessed.”

Because they did not wait on God,

The Middle East is still a mess.

Joseph had some brothers,

Who were jealous of the lad.

Their father favored Joseph,

And that made them real mad.

They sold him into slavery,

And thought he was gone at last.

But at their expense in Egypt,

Joseph had a blast.

Now, Samson loved to tease Deliah,

With his charming wit.

But after nagging him so long,

He just wanted her to quit.

And so, he told her ’bout his secret,

And fell under her spell.

Looking at the rest of his life,

It did not turn out so well.

Elijah challenged the prophets

Of Asherah and Baal.

When they did not hear from their gods,

He told them to yell.

He won a mighty victory.

You’d think he would act strong.

But one little threat, from one little woman,

Proved that theory wrong.

Daniel was a victim

Of the lions’ den.

He knew the Lord was with him,

And God would protect him.

He didn’t even wonder,

How the lions would react.

He trusted God would make them

Act pussy cats.

Moses said to Pharoah,

“You must let my people go.”

But Pharoah kept on reneging.

How could he stoop so low?

Finally, God had enough

From that old stubborn man.

He took what Pharoah loved the most

To carry out his plan.

A plague of blood, and frogs, and gnats, and flies,

Dead livestock, boils too,

Hail stones, locust, darkness,

And the loss of children, too.

After all these plagues, Pharoah said,

“Isreal children, leave this land!”

It took a lot to break this man,

But it was all part of God’s plan.

God uses strange and mighty ways,

To bring about his will.

Instead of arguing with Him,

Zip up and just be still.

If we will be patient,

And wait for God to act,

He will work on our behalf.

And that is just a fact!

Has the Lord worked in strange and mysteriously mighty ways in your life lately to act on your behalf? As Steve Brown would say, you think about that! Be talkin’ to you soon.                                                                                        Nancy Nonsense
