Ordinary

When the angel came to Mary
And told her of the Savior’s birth,
She must have marveled at the wonder
Of why God had chosen her.
She was just a young woman
From a family of humble means.
Why would the God of all creation
Choose her as mother of our King?

The disciples were ordinary
Among the people that day.
But they saw God’s love in Jesus
When He passed by their way.
They followed when He called them.
He gave a special job to them,
To spread His love and gracious mercy,
That’s why today we can know Him.

I’d like to know how many people
The jailer led to Christ,
After Paul and Silas told him
He could have eternal life.
I’m sure he and his family
Must have passed the message on,
And told their friends and neighbors
About God’s risen Son.

God uses ordinary
Today like He did then,
To spread His message of salvation
So we can be freed from our sin.
Don’t underestimate the power
In ordinary you.
When you share the love of Jesus,
Others may come to know Him too.
