Power Source

Good day, all my friends. The 4th story in “The Christian Gossip Show” is called The Annual Home Shopping episode. It’s a conversation between the host, Jimmy Jingles, and the pitch person for the network, Trusty Trustworthy.

The two of them introduce the viewers to the amusing new Biblically inspired creations such a The Pharisee’s Nose Straightener, Serpent Cider and Dr. Luke’s Thermometer.

At the end of the episode, the Spread the Word Singers share a song called “My Eveready Battery.” I was inspired to write this song as I thought back over the history that has taken place in my lifetime and about my own journey in coming to possess the Lord as my power source in this life, as well as my means of defeating Satan’s scheming influences.

If your old enough, enjoy your own memories of the events of history mentioned in the lyrics to this song. (If you are not old enough, think of it as a history lesson of life from the 1950’s to the 1980’s.

My Eveready Battery

I grew up in the 50’s,

Beaver Cleaver was the man.

We watched Roy Rogers, Mickey Mouse Club,

American Bandstand.

I learned a lot of what I know

From Captain Kangaroo.

We played jacks and marbles,

And hula hoops were new.

Boys with pompadours

Smoked cigarettes to look real cool.

There were saddle oxfords, poodle skirts,

And ponytail at school.

Back then I didn’t give much thought

About my future lot,

But the coming of a new decade

Opened Pandora’s box.

In the 60’s there were signs

Proclaiming “Gods is Dead.”

Flower children sang their songs

Of love and peace instead.

There were marches for equality

Riots over Viet Nam.

Mini skirts and flowered shirts,

Go Go boots were glam.

Bell bottom pants and leisure suits

Would haunt the 70’s.

There were drugs to make you happy!

And put your mind at ease.

Around this time in my life

I was searching for the Lord.

I finally saw God’s master plan

And so, I got on board.

My Eveready Battery

Is Jesus, my Lord.

He’s my power to fight the devil

Before he’s even scored

I’ll keep on running faithfully

‘Cause Heaven is in sight,

Lord, you’re my                                                                                                                                              Eveready Battery for life.

In the 80’s there were mullets

Like Patrick Swayze had.

And all the ladies’ fashions

Had great big shoulder pads.

It took lots, and lots, and lots of fabric

To make a single dress.

Hair was very, very big!

And often quite a mess!

Glancing back at the good ole days,

Sometimes we looked real bad.

And it is so amazing

All the changes that we’ve had.

I don’t think I could have coped

Without Him by my side.

Jesus gives me courage

And power for the ride.

In looking at my lifetime

And all the history,

I often thought at certain times,

How can all this be?

There was the Cuban missile crisis,

Kennedy was shot,

We landed man upon the moon,

That new frontier we sought.

Watergate, the Challenger, 9-11 too,

These events were tragedies

That shaped our point of view.

The Lord is always with me

In good times and bad.

Since time keeps marching right along

I am very glad…….

That my Eveready Battery

Is Jesus, my Lord.

He’s my power to fight the devil

Before he’s even scored.

I’ll keep on running faithfully

‘Cause Heaven is in sight,

Lord, you’re my

Eveready Battery for life.

Yes, Jesus is the power in my life.

Hope you enjoyed this nostalgic look at the power source for our lives as Christians. Stay plugged in until we chat again.      Reminiscing Nancy
